The Best 0% Balance Transfer Offer from Chase Goes from 15 Months Interest-Free, to 12

Chase Credit Cards
Chase Credit Cards
The last time I posted, Chase was offering a highly attractive 15 month interest-free period on transferred balances with the with the Chase Platinum card. Now, the Chase Platinum Card is offering a 0% annual percentage rate (APR) on transferred balances for 12 billing cycles for applicants with good credit who qualify for "Elite Pricing"; those with less-than-perfect credit can get a zero percent intro APR on transferred balances for 3 billing cycles.

So now all the best 0% balance transfers deals being offered by Citibank, Chase, and Discover Card here is the U.S. have an interest-free period of (up to) 12 months. Twelve months interest-free for balance transfers is still a great deal, no doubt, but I'm certain that I'm not the only one who is sorry to see the 15 month deal disappear from the market. Let's hope that one of the credit card companies listed above makes a move to trump its rivals by offering a 15, 18 or -- dare I write it -- 24 month interest-free intro APR balance transfer deal.

Actually, now that I think about it, there is still a hot 15 month deal available: it's the American Express® Blue card which offers a 0% APR on purchases for 15 months. So if you're not interested in transferring a balance, then the Amex Blue card may be for you.

The Latest Balance Transfer Offers from Credit Card Accounts I Already Have Open

Here are the balance transfer offers that I have available to me from the credit card accounts I already have open:

  • My Citibank (Citi®) Diamond Preferred® account is currently offering 0% APR on transferred balances until September 1, 2006.
  • My Citibank (Citi®) Dividend Platinum Select® card is currently offering 5.99% APR on transferred balances until June 1, 2007. 5.99% is 2 percentage points below the current U.S. Prime Rate, but the bottom line for me: Citibank has made better offers in the very recent past, so there's a chance that a better offer from the good folks @ Citi is just around the corner.
  • My Providian Visa® Platinum account (Providian is now a part of Washington Mutual) is offering me 1.99% APR on transferred balances until December, 2006.
  • When I login to my BJ's MasterCard® account (my BJ's credit card is a Chase co-branded card), I am presented with 8 unique balance transfer offers (choice is always a good thing!) The 2 best offers are:

    • 0% fixed APR until November 1, 2006

    • 4.99% fixed APR until the transferred balance is paid in full.
